Cuentos de Cumpleaños

"Of course you run the risk of ending up alone. And all because you were oblivious to the man who could have held you in his arms, and ignored the awkward-looking girl who could have been a lifelong friend.
If that's the case, you can always book a one-way ticket to Paris."
-How to be Parisian Wherever You Are, page 69

Gigi & I haven't always been best friends. In fact, we were barely knew each other.
I remember I was sitting in the car ten minutes before my viola lesson with Matthew Chicurel just scrolling through my phone & listening to America's Top 50 when Gigi sent me a text. She wanted to start a blog with me. Honestly, I was so excited that I couldn't think about anything else-even during me viola lesson. Later that evening, I texted Gigi back, saying that we should meet up somewhere to set up the blog.
A few days later, we met at the Carrboro Open Eye Café (which I recommend to everyone). Gigi ordered some cool drink I've never heard of (and she was wearing some jaw-dropping outfit) and I ordered an iced green tea. We both sat down at a metal round table to the right of the café entrance.
By the way, when I get excited, I talk really fast. While I was getting my things out of my bag, 10 ideas must have been cascading out of my mouth all at once. I pulled out my MacBook Air & I opened it so quickly that I didn't realise that my iced green tea was right behind my laptop.
The rest seemed like it happened all in slow motion. And I was mortified the entire time.
I opened my MacBook Air so quickly that it spilled my green tea all over the table. & by the way, it was really crowded in the café that day & all eyes were on me when the iced green tea spilled & the glass shattered.
My first thought was, Okaaaaayyyyy is this really happening?!?
My second thought was, yes, now you better do something!!
The café manager reluctantly gave me a mop & told me to pick up all of the glass shards myself. Gigi helped me clean up the mess, which was really nice of her.
& the entire time I was cleaning that mess up, I was thinking Wow Kt, you really did it this time. You just blew your chances of making really good friends with Gigi, congratufreakinlations!
But Gigi didn't leave, she stayed with me for the next two hours.
And with that, I knew we were going to be best friends.

Today, we are still best friends. Because we have completely different schedules, we don't get to see each other a lot, but when we do, it's tops! So Gigi, here's to our friendship & please come to my house tomorrow for our doggy hike!
