Felicitaciones

So, my friend Emi had her senior recital last semester. She sent me the links to the video recordings from the recital, and I loved watching every minute!

My favourite work Emi performed was Prokofiev's Six Pieces from the Ballet "Romeo & Juliet", arranged by Russian (Soviet) violist Vadim Borisovsky (minutes 8:25-14:25). My favourite movement is The Dance of the Knights. As you can probably tell from the work's title, the work was originally a ballet. Being that a lot of instruments have to come together to make such a big sound, Borisovsky knew that he had to add his own touch of virtuosity to his transcribed movement-as well as the rest of the work. This six minute movement has an A section containing a generous amount of octaves and chords. In contrast, an adagio B theme proceeds with some very beautiful harmonics. Then, the A section slowly crescendoes back in, allowing the movement to end on a dramatic G minor chord.

Borisovsky is known for transcribing many known works for the viola. Some include Debussy's Claire De Lune, Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, & Tchaikovsky's Ardent Declaration (a piece that I had the opportunity to perform).

Anyway, I am so proud of Emi because I know that she worked her butt off at CIM, keep moving forward girl!
