There's just something special about getting letters from your best friends in the mail. You feel classy corresponding by means of a dying art. You feel creative getting to decorate the inside & outside of the letter. You feel loved knowing that someone special took the time out of their day to write & send the letter to you.

One of my very best friends, Emma, just came back from her gap year abroad in England. She spent her year working as an intern in a book store just outside of London.

Emma would sometimes get to video chat with me. Once she called me while she was visiting a delapidated cathedral in Cambridge while I called her in my very interesting dorm that was constructed in the 80s.

Emma also came back with some stories that were...tops!

One night, Emma was spending the evening exploring London. While she was walking, she noticed these purple flashing lights. Emma followed the purple flashing lights & the purple flashing lights led her to Ed Sheeran. The famous singer-songwriter was just playing outside of a pub & Emma got to watch Ed Sheeran play-for free!

"The moral of this story is follow the purple flashing lights."-Emma

Emma decided to take me to a place where we could let out our creative outlets. Of course, Emma didn't tell me where she was taking me until we got there, which got me even more excited!

Her gift to me was a creative session in the Glass Class Studio in Durham, NC. Christal Cerrone opened the studio in her garage in 2001 & ever since then, hundreds glass-making memories have been made. I had never worked with glass before, so this was a learning experience for me. "Unfortunately", I was having too much fun to take any photos of the gorgeous studio & Emma, so I'll upload a photo of the finished works later. There were jars of glass that were the most serene of colours.  There was a lady making a lamp out of glass. It was like decorating pottery, but with little pieces of glass.

what to make

As soon as we finished our glass making, we left our works to be kindled & had lunch at Sandwich on Franklin Street. Emma treated me to a capresse sandwich, which blew me away! The inside of the sandwich bread was salty & crispy, I'm guessing that the inside of the sandwich was lightly grilled & coated in salt & olive oil.

I am so glad Emma is back! I can't wait to have even more adventures with you this summer, Emma!
